Several people have been killed in a gun attack in the US state of Kentucky, according to media reports. Broadcasters CNN and ABC reported Monday, citing Louisville police, that five people were killed and several others injured. The attack took place in a bank building in the city center.
The police said on Twitter that the alleged shooter was dead and that there was no longer any danger. Democratic Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear wrote on Twitter that he was on his way to the crime scene. Further details were initially unknown.
The United States has long experienced massive levels of gun violence. Rampages and deadly shootings are part of everyday life. Such larger attacks regularly lead to discussions about tightening gun laws – but so far without success. Firearms are readily available in the United States and widely distributed. (SDA)
