Two Palestinians were killed in an Israeli military operation in the West Bank on Monday night. A 22-year-old and a 25-year-old were fatally injured in a village near the Palestinian city of Jenin, the Ramallah health ministry said. Three other people were injured.
According to Israeli military information, soldiers had entered the village to demolish the homes of two Palestinian attackers. They were suspects in a September incident in which an Israeli soldier was killed. The Israeli army broadcaster reported that the operation resulted in firefights with residents.
Jenin is considered a stronghold of militant Palestinians. After a series of attacks on Israelis that began in March last year, the army is carrying out more and more incursions there and in the West Bank in general. Deadly confrontations occur almost every day. A total of 172 Palestinians were killed in clashes or their own attacks in 2022, according to the Ministry of Health in Ramallah, more than at any time since 2006. (saw/sda/dpa)
