Every year, many brands showcase their latest automobile creations at the legendary Goodwood Festival of Speed in England. Also in 2023: Last weekend, Hyundai’s principal subsidiary Genesis unveiled its new flagship G90 to the European public for the first time. Chief designer Luc Donckerwolke (58) and Duke of Richmond Charles Gordon-Lennox (68) drew the fabric of the luxury sedan themselves!

According to General Manager Lawrence Hamilton, the G90 has been on the market since 2021 and has had a successful launch in South Korea, the United States, Canada and the Middle East. “We’re getting more and more questions about when the model will finally arrive in Europe,” says Hamilton. Now is the time.

The flagship with a length of 5.28 meters should impress with its extraordinary comfort and modern technologies. The limousine is optionally available with four or five seats, while the long-wheelbase version with a 19-centimetre-longer wheelbase is only available with four seats – these are heated and ventilated as standard and have a massage function. The aim of the G90 is to make luxury hell for the well-established German top models Audi A8, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes S-Class.

Not much is known about the powertrain. In the US, the G90 is available with a 375 hp 3.5-liter V6 engine with all-wheel drive – even the top model with electric supercharger delivers a whopping 415 hp and 549 Nm of torque. Will these engines come to Europe as well? To wait.

Genesis also keeps a low profile when it comes to prices. However, we do know that the G90 retails for $88,400 in the US – that’s the equivalent of about 76,000 francs. The amount may be realistic, as the smaller G80 sedan – the predecessor of the G90, so to speak – is available in this country for 61,300 francs. But here too, we can look forward to the official figures.

In the coming months, the G90 will initially only be released in Europe in Switzerland and Germany – it has to be imported to other countries at the customer’s request. How high will demand for the South Korean luxury sedan really be? Another question we hope to have an answer to soon.
