For Lulu Sun this means packing your bags in Dubai.

Lulu Sun (WTA 181) was eliminated in the 2nd round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai. The 22-year-old Swiss lost to number 9 seed Latvian Jelena Ostapenko 4:6, 3:6.

Sun is keeping up well with her opponent, who is four years older and has already won the WTA 500 tournaments in Adelaide and Linz this year. She fends off seven of nine break opportunities and twice gets the chance to take over Ostapenko’s serve. However, because Sun fails in this, she has to admit defeat after just over 80 minutes.

In the first round, Sun, who entered with a wildcard, benefited from the injury-related retirement of her opponent Paula Badosa (WTA 74).

Sabalenka succumbs to fearful opponents

Aryna Sabalenka was also eliminated in the second round. The Australian Open winner and world number two from Belarus lost to Croatian Donna Vekic (WTA 31) 7:6 (7:5), 3:6, 0:6.

After winning the starting set, Sabalenka, for whom Dubai is the first tournament since defending her title at the Australian Open, completely collapses. In the eighth comparison with Vekic, she has to leave the field as a loser for the sixth time. (SDA)
