While Ridley Scott created a true science fiction film classic with ‘Blade Runner’ in 1982, Denis Villeneuve skillfully followed up with the sequel ‘Blade Runner 2049’ in 2017 and expanded the futuristic world of the so-called ‘replicants’ with a remarkable sequel. Both films received the highest rating of 5 stars in our FILMSTARTS review, making them among the best representatives of their genre. It is all the more gratifying that Ridley Scott announced more than three years ago that he I’m working as a producer on a sequel to the story called “Blade Runner 2099comes to Amazon Prime Video as a ten-part miniseries.
With Game Of Thrones director Jeremy Podeswa on board the project and filming due to begin in Belfast last summer, production had to be postponed due to the Hollywood strikes. Due to the resulting scheduling conflicts, Podeswa was forced to resign from his position. How reported, Filming will now start in April this year in Prague instead of Belfast.
In the director’s chair for the first two episodes comes Jeremy Podeswa Jonathan van Tulleken to replace, who most recently directed episodes of the Disney+ series “Shogun” and also has series such as “Misfits”, “Upload” and “Trust” in his filmography.
This is what “Blade Runner 2099” is all about
50 years after the events of Villeneuve’s “Blade Runner 2049” The series builds on the content and aesthetics of the previous two films. In “Blade Runner 2049,” Ryan Gosling, as part of the LAPD’s “Blade Runner” unit, set out to track down unauthorized replicants — artificially bred humans created for use in a space colony — and met Harrison along the way as Ford hints at one of his predecessors who fled underground under mysterious circumstances thirty years ago.
Although Silka Luisa (“Halo”) is the creator and screenwriter of “Blade Runner 2099,” nothing else is known about the casting of the sci-fi series. We also have to wait a while until we find out the start date of the new ‘Blade Runner’ adventure on Amazon Prime Video.
