This weekend did not go according to plan for former overall World Cup winner Nicole Hosp (40). The Austrian would actually comment on the women’s technical races as an ORF expert, this time in Jasna. But when the slalom took place in the Slovak ski resort on Sunday, Hosp was in hospital in Innsbruck and had to undergo surgery on his knee.
What happened? It’s Saturday when Hosp heads to the track for a tracking shot, as he has done so many times. But then the ex-skier falls violently on the giant slalom course.
Bitter diagnosis the day after the accident
The knee immediately hurts a lot, even ÖSV head coach Roland Assinger took care of Hosp on the slopes. The pain is so great that the 2007 world champion in giant slalom can no longer comment on the race together with ORF commentator Peter Brunner, but has instead left for her home country of Tyrol.
The bitter diagnosis will follow on Sunday. Hosp was seriously injured when the camera fell and required immediate surgery. Nine years after her retirement, she was hit again just as hard as when she was still active; in 2009 she tore her cruciate ligament.
Now it is a meniscus injury. And the cruciate ligament may also have been torn. Hosp says in the “Tiroler Tageszeitung”: “I only found out after the operation. It just turned out to be stupid. Now I have to wait and see what happens.”
What an eerie result from the races in Jasna. It is not only superstar Petra Vlhova (28) who is seriously injured. But also cameraman Hosp.
