The police have so far counted fourteen attacks on speed cameras. Eleven with tools, one with explosives, one with an air rifle and one with an agricultural vehicle that served as a battering ram. The revolt against permanently installed speed cameras has now become a series. The perpetrator not only struck in the provinces of Padua, Rovigo, Treviso and Belluno, there were also attacks on speed cameras in Emilia Romagna, Piedmont and Lombardy.

“Fleximan” destroys speed cameras

The vandal was dubbed ‘Fleximan’ online, based on the most popular tool he used, the Flex. The Fleximan circular saw cuts the steel boxes as if they were Christmas trees. According to a report in the Mattino di Padova newspaper, the criminal last struck on the night from Friday to Saturday. A speed camera that has been in use for six years and is responsible for about 40 fines per day is out of use for the time being. The device has so far brought a total of around one and a half million euros into the public coffers of the municipality of Carceri.

Half of Veneto is looking for the serial perpetrator. He carried out his first attack on May 19, 2023 in Bosaro in Rovigo province. He has been fooling law enforcement authorities for months and is increasingly going to extremes. In August, he unleashed his creativity and simply blew up a speed camera. Even at Christmas he did not rest and struck in Corbola on December 26. Even on mountain roads the machines had to cope. On the Giau Pass in the province of Belluno, “Fleximan” destroyed one of the devices with his circular saw. (no)
