“American Nightmare”: Victim Reacts to His Case in Netflix True Crime Documentary

True crime series have been very popular on streaming services for a while now. A very famous case has now been reopened on Netflix with ‘An American Nightmare’ (originally: ‘American Nightmare’). And the reactions on social media are intense.

In 2015, Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn were robbed at Quinn’s home. She was kidnapped and he was drugged. Two days later, Husikins resurfaced and her statements were seriously doubted. It took a long time before the perpetrator was caught. The case became known as ‘Gone Girl’ – a reference to a previously published novel in which a woman fakes her own kidnapping.

In Germany, ‘American Nightmare’ is number one on the Netflix series charts. Denise Huskins has now also personally responded to the true crime format on Instagram.

It turned out that Denise Huskins was accidentally the victim of a crime; the perpetrator actually targeted Quinn’s ex-girlfriend. Meanwhile, even the kidnapper spoke out and expressed irritation at the suggestion that the story might be a lie. Nevertheless, authorities remained skeptical and suspected the couple involved.

Only after another crime could Matthew Muller be identified because he lost his cell phone during the fight during the crime. Ultimately, Denise Huskins’ kidnapping was attributed to him.

The case is a shocking example of sexism in police work. For example, detective Mat Mustard, who played a crucial role in the investigation (in a negative sense), says in the series:
