Another injury shock for the US women’s ski team: Ava Sunshine (21) will have to sit out the coming season. The slalom candidate tore his anterior cruciate ligament during the training camp in New Zealand. After the serious injury of Nina O’Brien (25), it is the next bitter loss for the American technicians.
‘I don’t really know what else to say. “It breaks my heart to miss this season,” Sunshine announced her injury on her Instagram account. “But rest assured, there’s still a lot I want to do. So we look ahead and continue.” She and teammate O’Brien will be back “soon.”
A debut as “Bode Miller”
Ava Sunshine only made her debut at World Championship level last season – and scored points in her first race. In the slalom in Levi she made people sit up and take notice with a 21st place. “Just like Bode Miller,” compatriot Mikaela Shiffrin (27) was full of praise for her teammate in a TV interview afterwards. The good start to the season in Levi remained the best result of last winter for the passionate surfer. In total, Sunshine took part in 15 races in the World Cup. The next ones probably won’t be added until the 2024/25 season. (dti)
