Bosnia instead of Switzerland?: Tabakovic is on the verge of changing nations

Haris Tabakovic (29) has arrived in Berlin. Although Hertha is in 17th place in the 2nd Bundesliga, the striker has already scored four times for the old lady in his first four games.

Last season, Tabakovic shook up the Austrian league, scoring 18 goals in 30 games for Austria Vienna. With such numbers, the national team naturally also becomes a problem. But not the Swiss national team.

Bosnian association shows interest

Because while Tabakovic, who trained at YB, played for several Swiss U-national teams (U21, U19, U18), Murat Yakin (48) has not yet reported. His second home, Bosnia & Herzegovina, is different.

“The Bosnian association has shown interest,” Tabakovic told German “Kicker”. Switzerland is his home, but he has never lost his connection with Bosnia and there are two hearts beating in his chest. His parents fled from Bosnia to Switzerland during the war.

“If the Bosnians take it seriously…”

Tabakovic continues that he is dealing “very specifically” with an association change: “There are some formalities that need to be completed. I’m ready for that. I have always said that I am open to both associations, and I will wait and see who nominates me. If the Bosnians get serious, I am ready to play for my parents’ homeland.”

The Bosnians can certainly use Tabakovic’s nose for goals at the moment. In qualifying for the 2024 European Championship, they are behind countries such as Luxembourg and Slovenia in their group and the train to Germany has probably left. The team led by the eternal Edin Dzeko (37) has scored only five goals in the six qualifying matches so far. On Monday they lost 0-1 against bottom team Iceland.

In the Swiss national team, the competition in attack is probably much greater. Will Yakin reach out before it’s too late? (bjl)
