At 32 years old, Martin Dougoud is in control of his kayaking singles like never before: Silver medal at the European Games in Poland

The 32-year-old from Geneva is thus approaching a new Olympic participation. At the European Games in Krakow, the canoeists were also qualifying for the Olympic Games.

Dougoud achieved his best result to date with the silver medal at the European Championships. At his Olympic debut two years ago in Japan, he reached 13th place. Dougoud, who lives in France, has so far only managed to win an EM medal with the team (bronze EM 2020 in Prague).

Dougoud had already convinced third place in the semifinals at the Kolna Sports Center. In the final, Dougoud only lost 1.39 seconds to the also clear Czech Olympic champion Jiri Prskavec.

Perhaps the silver medal in Poland is enough for a quota place for the Summer Games in Paris in a year. In canoe slalom, Olympic qualification mainly takes place at the World Championships in September. For the non-qualified after the World Cup, the results of the European competitions are used. Even the canoe association ECA admits that the qualification system for the 2024 Olympic Games is complicated.
