On May 20, 2023, the TÜV rules were adjusted again. The adjustment means that the consumption data of young vehicles is read from the TÜV and passed on to the European Environment Agency. The new TÜV regulations apply to passenger cars and light commercial vehicles with a first registration date after January 1, 2021.
With these vehicles, reading out the fuel consumption data is part of the main inspection (TÜV). At the TÜV, the actual fuel and power consumption of the car is read and forwarded to the European Environment Agency.
The transfer of data during the MOT applies to many vehicles
The new rules apply to vehicles with internal combustion engines and hybrid vehicles with internal combustion engines and electric motors. Fully electric cars are not covered. The EOBD system of vehicles from the end of 2020/beginning of 2021 is factory-prepared for the new requirements.
Actual fuel consumption is recorded by the on-board fuel consumption monitoring system (OBFCM), which is part of the regular EOBD system. By collecting the data, “Europe” wants to better reflect the differences between actual consumption and WLTP consumption. Passing on consumption data is not mandatory. If you do not agree, you do not have to pass on the information.
