According to the original text of the motion, the Bundesrat should apply for the loans for the construction of the tunnel in 2023. The National Council, on the other hand, would like to have the project thoroughly examined first, so that Parliament can then count on reliable costs.
In concrete terms, the project will be evaluated as part of the status report of the rail infrastructure and Perspective 2050 expansion programmes. It will then be decided how to proceed.
It involves a tunnel in which the rail connection and high-voltage line are bundled. The reason for this is that the extra high-voltage line on the Grimsel, which is usually more than 60 years old, needs to be replaced.
