Spike LR2: In order for the military to engage armored targets at long ranges, the ground forces need a new guided anti-tank missile system.

In order for the Swiss Army to be able to engage long-range armored targets, the ground forces need a long-range anti-tank guided missile system. Now the Federal Bureau of Armaments (Armasuisse) has struck gold. The Spike LR2 system has been chosen for the new surface-to-surface missile. Defense Minister Viola Amherd (60) wants to request the tender from parliament with the Army Message 2024.

Armasuisse looked around at various European and American manufacturers. The focus was on the function, the effect, the possible integration into the existing infrastructure and the commercial framework.

Concrete figures are still secret for the time being

The German-Israeli company Eurospike was awarded the contract. The system, which has already been implemented in several European armies, was evaluated as having the highest military utility and was also the most attractive offer from an economic point of view, the Federal Bureau advertises.

How many pieces of the new weapon will be purchased and how much the package will cost is the subject of clarification. Details would be presented to parliament with the army message in 2024, it was recently said. Until then, the relevant information is confidential.

The chosen system should initially be used by the infantry on a mobile basis. In a first step, the integration in a carrier platform will be canceled. However, the system could also be retrofitted to vehicles. (dba)
