At least seven killed in avalanche in Himalayas

More are missing after Tuesday’s incident, according to the Indian army, which is involved in the rescue effort along with the Indian civil defense and police.

At least 22 people have been rescued, local television channel NDTV reports. The avalanche originated near the Nathu La mountain pass on the Indochinese border. This is a popular spot for local tourists who want to see the border region in the Indian state of Sikkim. The avalanche also blocked a road, temporarily trapping and rescuing about 350 tourists in the region.
