About 5,000 young people between the ages of 15 and 20 from Ukraine have so far been granted protection status S and thus the opportunity to start an internship in Switzerland. The recruitment of interns for the summer is already in full swing, the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) reported on Wednesday.
To ensure that the training companies and young people have planning certainty, it must be ensured that they can also complete the apprenticeship even if the protection status S were to be withdrawn. This is what Baume-Schneider wants to achieve with her decision. Whether the nuclear families of the trainees can stay in Switzerland until the apprenticeship is completed will be decided at a later date.
