Schranz received 813 votes, surpassing the absolute majority. Rudolf Buchser (SVP) received 365 votes, Hansjürg Josi 321. The turnout was 60.9 percent.
Schranz has been a member of the city council for eight years. Previously he was responsible for the school and education department. As chairman, he succeeds Markus Gempeler (SVP), who could no longer be a candidate due to term limits.
Two council seats remained to be filled in the Oberland community. The non-party members Mireille Trummer-Heischburg and Ursula Wäfler-Germann were elected. The third candidate, Barbara Oester-Schranz, who is also independent, lagged behind. She received only 23 votes fewer than Trummer-Heischburg. (SDA)
