Parliamentarians celebrate too loudly: party until the police come

Late at night there is not only politicization in the Federal Palace, but sometimes also celebration.

If you want to celebrate in Bern, the Federal Palace is the last thing on your mind. But our parliamentarians have recently proven one thing: they can celebrate loudly. For more than thirty of them, September 28 was the last evening in the Federal Palace. They won’t compete anymore.

Reason enough for an aperitif and a performance by the impartial hobby music group Fractional Zwang. It includes the two Bernese National Council members Aline Trede (40, Greens) and Christa Markwalder (48, FDP), as the “NZZ” writes.

Energy Minister Albert Rösti (56) and federal council candidate Beat Jans (59) apparently took turns on the drums that evening. They really heated things up. So much so that the windows had to be opened. And that did not go down well in the Marzili district of Bern. Shortly before half past ten at night, residents reported to the police. And they came out: Urgent suspicion of disturbing the peace, writes the ‘NZZ’. According to the newspaper, the police threatened consequences if the volume was not reduced.

Politicians enjoy immunity

Bern cantonal police Blick confirmed that a patrol of two officers had gone to the Federal Palace. No further complaints were received after that.

The question is how much the party animals actually have to fear. Parliamentarians are protected from criminal prosecution when carrying out their work during the session – even if it is not an official activity. (brother)
