U21 player Nikolas Muci (20) shot himself into national news a month ago with a dream goal. Against Finland he shot in from the edge of the penalty area with a side kick from a standing position. The ball hit the bottom right. It couldn’t be more acrobatic.

“It was pure instinct. I didn’t even realize I had scored a goal until I saw the ball in the net. They were incredible emotions, also because it was my debut in the U21. “It’s definitely my best goal yet professionally,” Muci said in an interview with Blick.

He has three nationalities

But who is this striker who, according to experts, is one of the most interesting talents in our country? Muci was born in Lenzburg, in the canton of Aargau. But the family moved to Ticino early on. His mother is German and his father is Italian. Therefore, in addition to his local citizenship, Nikolas also has German and Italian citizenship. In football, only one country is an option for Muci. “I’m only thinking of Switzerland,” he emphasizes.

It has become clear that Muci is now part of the U21. In recent years he has regularly demonstrated his goal-scoring ability. Initially in the youth departments of FC Lugano and since summer 2022 on loan to FC Wil. He describes the two-year loan in eastern Switzerland as the right step. Overall, he sees himself on a good path in his career. “But I always want more, that’s in my nature.”

Muci seems determined and knows exactly what he wants. He conveys this during the 15-minute conversation with impressive calmness, without coming across as arrogant. He knows that there are still a number of points that need to be improved. That’s what he calls the explosiveness in the last meters. Brazilian Ronaldo and Luis Suárez serve as role models for him.

Brother also professional

Muci learned to score goals in family circles. “I grew up playing football with my brother. It just so happened that he went into goal and I was the striker. He was actually my first opponent, my first coach and my first teammate. We helped each other a lot and as a result we improved each other.”

Nowadays his brother Alexander, who is more than two years older than him, is among the posts at Bellinzona. Last season they faced each other for the first time as opponents at professional level in the Challenge League and Nikolas promptly scored a goal for Wil.

Now he has the chance to demonstrate his goal threat on the international stage again with the U21s. Montenegro (Friday) and Armenia (Tuesday) await Switzerland in the European Championship qualifying.
