The military is recalling many rifle cartridges due to cracked shells.

However, the army believes that most of the 480,000 rounds hit have already been fired, the army and Armasuisse wrote on Thursday. The cause of the cracks in the cabinet is not yet known. It is also unclear whether the weapon used plays a role in the damage.

The rifle cartridge 11 is used, among other things, for the assault rifle 57, carabiners and long guns, ie weapons used by sport shooters. It is also used in sporting weapons.

The military no longer uses the Assault Rifle #57, a precursor to the current Assault Rifle. She sells the cartridges for shooting practice and shooting courses to shooting clubs and gives them away free of charge for the compulsory shooting program for army members, for field shooting and for junior shooting courses.

The recall affects lot 039-18 T. In the past three months, cartridges from this lot have had case cracks on four occasions, the notice said. The shooting clubs have been informed of the closure by letter.

The clubs can have the worthless cartridges replaced with ammunition from other lots or have them added to the order for the coming year. (SDA)
