Foxo do lobo in Viana do Bolo. Author:

TO word Wolf comes from the Latin term lupus. In one of the meanings, I define it as a mammal animal, a butcher, similar to a large dog with short grayish-brown hair, a pointed head, short ears, erect and a long hairy tail. OR canis lupus The wolf is an ancient animal that once inhabited practically the entire northern hemisphere, but today its territory is reduced to very small areas inhabited by different subspecies. The mythological and totemic animal is present in different cultures of the planet representing power, strength, nobility, spirituality and high healing. From the historical legend of ancient Rome, whose founders Romulus and Remus They were encouraged by the she-wolf, the mythological and monstrous Fenrir wolf of the Norse cultures, or from where the sacred wolves and healers of American Indian cultures were associated with the fearsome and famous Galician wolves, the presence of the wolf is constant in its various meanings. In Galicia, lobo is more present, but also more stigmatized. It instills fear and attacks that it occasionally causes on people, so that in some regions it is considered a harmful animal. But on the other hand, it acts as a great ecological regulator, since it is a predator of species that are currently becoming an invasive problem due to the lack of natural balance caused, in part, by the small number of individuals of this species. In my house, I was always told about wolves, and practically always with negative connotations, like when talking about his intelligence and cunning. I chose sad stories about wolves and real stories that happened to meus avós, relatives and parents. Souben gives the story of a werewolf who lived in the non-moi village of Lonxe á nosa and also the meaning of the popularly named werewolf. Countless toponymy related to this mythical animal is a reflection of its fund related to popular culture: Lobeira, Lobelle, Lobás, Fonte do lobo or Foxo do lobo There are two countless testimonies of his millennial presence on our earth. There are moitas expressions, cantige, fortune tellers and sayings in Galician popular culture that refer to this imposing animal, but for this text I stick to what I found in the land of wolves and I hear how they all eat, I am gifted to understand these times.
