The city of knowledge was the scene of various activities of the “Editathon de cientificas panamañas” (Editathon of Panamanian scientists).
It is an event that is replicated in Panama an international initiative that seeks to contribute to the empowerment of women through technology and reduce the existing double gender gap in the most relevant online and collaborative encyclopedia in the world, Wikipedia, where only 1 in 10 people editing information are women and only 2 in 10 biographies are women.
For this purpose, some 30 women, including scientists and journalistsacademics and other selected experts participated in three workshops organized by CCE-Casa del Soldado during the week.
In the first workshop, they dealt with an introduction to gender issues in science and technology.
In the second, Carmen Alcázar, director Wikimedia Mexico Foundation and the founder of the Editatona initiative, she gave an introduction to Wikipedia and editatonas; and the last one, dictated by Mónica Bonilla Parra, the director Colombian Wikimediait was about how to edit on Wikipedia.
