The season finale of “The Last of Us” video game adaptation has been running since Monday. 8.2 million people watched the last episode. “Outside the United States, ‘The Last of Us’ is now the most-watched series in HBO history in both Europe and Latin America,” the statement said. In the US, the “Game of Thrones” spin-off “House of the Dragon”, which came out last year, still dominates the ratings on HBO.
The series takes place in a world scarred by a mold plague. Once bitten, the infected humans mutate into zombie-like creatures. The story begins in 2003 and tells what will happen to humanity in this apocalyptic world in 20 years.
A second season, based on the video game The Last of Us: Part II, has been confirmed since January. The creators have now announced that the second part of the game will be made in multiple seasons as the story is much more complex and there are more characters. They do not want to make any announcements about how many seasons are planned. It is also not yet known when the second season will be released. Filming on the first season took about a year, so fans will likely have to wait two years for more episodes.
Different characters will appear again. The two main characters Ellie (played by Bella Ramsey) and Joel (played by Pedro Pascal) have already been confirmed. So are Tommy (played by Gabriel Luna) and Maria (played by Rutina Wesley). Another character who will play an important role next season is Abby, played by Laura Bailey.
