It’s every traveler’s nightmare: You arrive at your destination airport and wait in vain for your suitcase on the luggage belt. This happens all the time. Of course, with the millions of travelers Swissport handles in Switzerland each year.
But there were major problems at Zurich Airport last Sunday, as Blick learned from readers. They report long waiting times and luggage not arriving. Ground handling officer Swissport confirms “technical issues” at a glance. A baggage belt had failed at check-in 1 at Flughafen Zürich AG. “As a result, all luggage was manually brought to Check-in 2 and loaded onto the luggage belt from there,” he says.
Six flights affected
Swissport spokesperson Nathalie Berchtold said that luggage must also be processed manually in baggage sorting. In addition, two more flights were canceled in a short time. So bad luck. Still, the wait times would not exceed 50 minutes.
“Completely lost pieces of luggage are due to a lack of loading at the departure airport, which can be due to a variety of reasons, such as strikes at airports in Germany or Spain,” Berchtold continues. The technical disruption affected passengers on six flights.
