Warner Bros. wants to expand ‘Harry Potter’ universe

David Zaslavi, CEO of Warner Bros. movie studio, wants to expand the “Harry Potter” franchise. Now only JK Rowling has to be it again.

CEO David Zaslav released Warner Bros. third-quarter results this week. Discovery known. What might be more interesting to many is that he said he is open to working with author JK Rowling and that he would like to make another Harry Potter movie.

“We’re really going to focus on franchises,” Variety quotes Zaslav. “We haven’t had a ‘Superman’ movie in 13 years. We haven’t made a ‘Harry Potter’ movie in 15 years. the profit of Warner Bros. So the focus on the franchise is one of the big advantages we have. House of the Dragon is an example of that, just like Game of Thrones, Sex and the City, Lord of the Rings – we have still have the rights to make Lord of the Rings movies.”

The last film in the popular franchise was 2011’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 2, which closed the magical wizarding world based on Rowling’s popular books. The studio also has the spin-off Fantastic Beasts film series, the most recent of which, The Secret of Dumbledore, came out in July this year. This was preceded by a reunion special, “Return to Hogwarts,” which aired last December. However, no plans have been announced for additional films in either franchise.

Zaslav’s comments come amid the ongoing controversy surrounding Rowling, who has been called transphobic by critics due to her constant comments on social media and in published works. Prominent LGBTQ organizations such as GLAAD and The Trevor Project have condemned Rowling’s comments, and several “Harry Potter” stars, including protagonists Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, have publicly denounced her comments.
