Back in March 2023, fans received the news that Guillermo del Toro was working on an adaptation of Mary Shelley’s cult novel ‘Frankenstein’ for Netflix. In doing so, the director of “Pan’s Labyrinth” fulfills a lifelong dream, as del Toro has said several times in interviews that he dreams of a remake of the horror classic and that he has already made several attempts to do so with Universal in the past. After his deal with Netflix, where he released the animated film ‘Pinocchio’ in 2022, his project is finally taking shape.
This is how the horror movie’s cast list is slowly being defined, which already includes “Star Wars” star Oscar Isaac in the role of Victor Frankenstein and “Pearl” and “X” actress Mia Goth as a possible love interest. While “Spider-Man” Andrew Garfield was originally set to play Frankenstein’s monster, the actor has now had to step down from his role following scheduling changes due to the Hollywood strikes. How exclusively reported, this role will instead be played by shooting star “Saltburn” and “Priscilla.” Jacob Elordi accepted.

In addition to Elordi, two Austrian actors are also among the new additions to ‘Frankenstein’. That should be the case Christopher Waltz (“Django Unchained”) and “All Quiet to the West” shine Felix Kammerer also be in front of the camera for del Toro. Rounding out the list is Lars Mikkelsen, who should be no stranger to fans of the Netflix hit “The Witcher,” as well as Del Toro regulars David Bradley (“Pinocchio”) and Christian Convey (“Sweet Tooth”).

While del Toro has spoken in the past about not just wanting to adapt Shelley’s classic to the screen, faithful to the novel, but rather bringing a whole new perspective to the story, it has not yet been confirmed whether this approach will still be on the agenda. the director is standing. It is also unclear whether the adaptation is a historical work or whether it has been brought into the present. In addition to his work as director, del Toro is also responsible for the script.
It is also currently uncertain when the film will appear on Netflix. If filming begins this year, a release is expected in 2025.
