Despite all perfection: greasy movie mistake in “Oppenheimer” causes horror on the internet

Christopher Nolan left nothing to chance with “Oppenheimer” and wanted to make everything as historically accurate as possible. But he made a mistake in a central scene of the movie.

After the successful use of the atomic bomb, “Oppenheimer” is celebrated. The moment played acoustically early in the film with loud footsteps playing a part is a key scene of the film and the portrayal of the main character’s inner turmoil. But she has a flaw. Than the small American flags waved by the crowd are obsolete.

The flag has 50 stars. But this scene takes place in 1945, when the American flag had only 48 stars. The 50-star version was not introduced until 1960.

On the internet, the error caused quite a bit of horror and wild discussion among some fans. Most of all, many people imagine how Christopher Nolan will react when he finds out what kind of oversight he and his team have made.

Though many use it to point out Nolan’s lack of CGI in this movie:

And now speculating whether the director will lend a hand again:

False flag in “Oppenheimer” – the internet tries to explain

But was it really carelessness? Of course there is also direct speculation on the internet how this could have happened and whether it is actually a mistake at all. Aside from the obvious answer that Christopher Nolan, as a British citizen (although half his family is from the US), just didn’t pay that much attention to the American flag, a more bizarre attempt at an explanation is also circulating.

The scene is finally described from the perspective of Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy). So it could be that he just remembered it wrong, in hindsight he put the wrong flag at the time.

It’s a thoroughly charming theory, but there’s a big catch. The interrogation scene about the withdrawal of his security clearance, from which the past is repeatedly viewed, takes place in the mid-1950s. Here, too, the flag with 50 stars did not yet exist.

However, you can very well argue that this scene is not the real starting point for the flashbacks at all. After all, the interrogation is also highly subjective, which is not only underlined by the much-discussed sex scene in the narrow back room. But why would Oppenheimer remember a false flag? All other breaks with reality make a statement about his thoughts and feelings. No, it’s just a movie mistake! Even a Christopher Nolan undermines them again and again – also with other titles, as the following article will make clear to you:
