A look at the website set up especially for the brunches on Monday afternoon showed that 92 of the 260 almshouses were already empty. As the Swiss Farmers’ Union announced on Monday, three members of the Federal Council are also interested.
Elisabeth Baume-Schneider will visit the Alpkäserei Lipplisbüel in Muotathal SZ on the national holiday. Federal Councilor Guy Parmelin wants to visit an alpine farm in Schwarzsee FR.
Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis accompanies some 160 readers of a Swiss magazine on a walk through the Gotthard region on the day before the national holiday. A Ticino farmer’s brunch awaits you on the Alp Sorescia above Airolo TI.
For thirty years, August 1st brunches have been held at farms on the National Day. According to the farmers’ association, the aim is to give visitors an insight into life on a farm and to promote mutual exchange.
The Federal Palace in Bern, more specifically the parliament building, will also be open on August 1. It is free to visit, Parliamentary Services said Monday, and the Visitors’ Service provides information on the building’s history and architecture at certain times.
Brigitte Häberli-Koller, President of the Council of States, and Martin Candinas, President of the National Council, will answer questions from visitors at noon. Musical performances complete the programme. The parliament building has always been open on 1 August. (SDA)
