The 11-year-old daughter of a former MLS player died in a boating accident in South Carolina after being hit by a propeller. The heiress of former New England Revolution goaltender Brad Knighton was one of a dozen people on the 23-foot boat in Horry County. The ship shook due to a large wave caused by another ship.
Nine people fell into the water, including Olivia. She was the only one killed in the incident. Brad released a statement on social media where he talked about the ordeal.

“There are no words to express the depth of our profound grief and sorrow at this time. Our family is still in shock from yesterday’s sudden and tragic death of our beautiful and wonderful daughter Olivia in a boating accident. We still can’t believe that her bright pure light was taken from us so suddenly. Somehow we will get through this together as a family,” he explained.

In a particularly difficult period, the athlete asked subscribers for support. He assured that Olivia was sharing her father’s work. “Olivia loved football and the revolution with all her heart. Our family has always felt your support throughout my career. We will need you and your prayers now more than ever,” the statement read. It was signed by Brad, his wife Britney and their sons Owen and Brooks.

Knighton played in MLS from 2007 to 2022 before becoming manager of the Revolution’s youth academy in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The team also praised Olivia. They honored her memory with a touching message.
“Olivia was a bright and shining light that Revolution loved throughout her life. She always brought a warm smile and laughter to Gillette Stadium and our training center when she visited. Her sudden loss will leave a deep wound in our hearts,” the Daily Mail said in a statement.
