Thanks to Xiaomi, this affordable electric sports car is actually entering production

Last September we introduced you to the SSC SC-01 for the first time, a sports car for the money of a Volkswagen Golf. The plans were promising, but there was still great uncertainty about the actual introduction of the model. Thanks to Xiaomi, the affordable electric sports car is actually going into production.

The car is built by Tianjin Gongjiangpai Auto Technology, a Chinese start-up. This sports car is the manufacturer’s first model.

Manufacturer supported by Xiaomi

It is thanks to Xiaomi that the affordable electric sports car is now actually going into production. The tech giant has reportedly invested millions of Chinese renminbi in the startup. That might sound like more than it is. One million Chinese renminbi is less than 130,000 euros.

The first SSC SC01 has now rolled off the production line. Large sales must also be organized this year.

How affordable is the electric sports car?

But how much does the cheap electric sports car cost? In China the model costs less than 300,000 Chinese renminbi. If we convert this into euros, that is 38,831 euros.

For the money you get a sports car with an output of 436 hp and 560 Nm of torque. This power and torque comes from two electric motors, one on the front and one on the rear axle.

The battery has a capacity of 60 kWh. According to the manufacturer, a full battery is sufficient for 520 kilometers. The charging process from 30 to 80 percent is completed in 25 minutes.

The weight of the sports car

Weight is of course important in a sports car. According to the manufacturer supported by Xiaomi, the two-seater weighs 1,370 kilograms. With two electric motors and a 60 kWh battery, that seems like a somewhat optimistic estimate. However, a lot of weight has been saved in the interior, for example.

However, if the car ever comes to Europe, it will likely be significantly more expensive and heavier due to the safety requirements that cars must meet.
