Andri Ragettli has won his seventh medal (after three gold and three bronze) at the prestigious invitational competition. In his flagship discipline slopestyle, the 2021 world champion is in the lead after the first and second of three runs in high-level competition against the world’s best. But unlike other competitors, the 25-year-old from Flims could not improve on his last attempt.
After a failed landing, Ragettli stopped his run on the course with several obstacles and remained at his 93.33 points. In the end this was only enough to finish 5th behind the Norwegian winner Birk Ruud (96.33) and the three Americans Alexander Hall (96.00), Mac Forehand (95.33) and Colby Stevenson (94.33).
Gremaud comes last
A short time later, Sarah Höfflin, a Swiss woman, laughs from the stage about the highlight of the season in the freestyle scene. The 2018 Olympic slopestyle champion wins the bronze medal in the knuckle huck. In the still young and non-Olympic discipline, the athletes do not do their tricks over the kicker as usual, but over the jumping table on which the kicker stands.
For Mathilde Gremaud, the big air competition at the X Games in Aspen ended in disappointment. The Freiburg native could not stand on three of her four jumps and finished last of the six competitors after the autumn festival.
The victory goes to the French Tess Ledeux, who has won one more gold medal in Big Air at the X-Games than the 23-year-old Swiss. On Sunday evening, Gremaud will compete in her showpiece event, slopestyle, as world champion and Olympic champion. (SDA)
