Used cars with petrol engines are thousands of euros more expensive than last year

Not only is driving expensive, used cars are also expensive. With the introduction of electric cars and hybrid vehicles, prices for used gasoline cars are expected to fall. But nothing is less true. Gasoline is still hot!

A report from Automotive Mediaventions – with data from sales sites Autowereld, Gaspedal.nl and AutoTrack – shows that the price of used petrol cars is at a record high.

Used gasoline cars are more expensive

The average price of a used car (not just petrol cars) is 23,654 euros. The average price of a used car with gasoline is slightly lower: 19,521 euros. Last September you had to pay almost 3 grand less for the average used gas car. In short, the price has increased by 18 percent in a year!

The average search price (not just for petrol cars) is almost the same as the average price of a used car, namely 19,532 euros. However, this amount is of course not in proportion to the average price charged for a used car: 23,654 euros.

Gasoline engines still have a high status on the used car market. Gasoline-powered cars are searched 52.3 percent of the time – when a fuel is selected during the search. The proportion of hybrids is 24.4 percent and diesels are only searched for in 9.4 percent of cases. Electric cars make up 8.6 percent of search queries and autogas is only ticked in 2.6 percent of search queries.

SUVs less popular than used cars

When people search for a body style, the hatchback model is most often chosen. In 23.3 percent of cases, the search is based on the car type. Station wagons are also popular and account for 22.4 percent of search queries.

What is striking is that “SUV” is only searched for in 15.1 percent of cases, while new cars are the most popular type of car. Sedans, MPVs and convertibles are the least popular among used car buyers.
