The city had planned the “Day X” demo for Saturday under the motto “Together we stand – despite everything, we defend autonomous anti-fascism!” banned on Thursday because there was fear of an unsatisfactory course. The basis for this is danger predictions by the police and situation assessments by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution (domestic secret service). Germany was mobilized in leftist circles. Police say there are also threats of violence and calls for militancy.

The “Day X” is a response to the conviction of student Lina E. and the three co-defendants for attacks on alleged or actual neo-Nazis. The quartet was sentenced on Wednesday by the Higher Regional Court of Dresden to several years in prison for assault and membership of or support for a criminal organization. Lina E., who had been detained for two and a half years, was provisionally released after the verdict.

The organizers of the “Day X” demonstration in Leipzig are legally defending the city’s ban. An urgent application has been received, Leipzig Administrative Court spokesman Dirk Tolkmitt said on Friday. The competent Senate will decide on this later in the day.
