Pope Francis (86) canceled his audiences on Friday due to a fever. Due to a “fever condition”, the head of the Catholic Church did not receive anyone in audience in the morning, the spokesman for the Holy See said when asked on Friday. Appointments over the weekend of Pentecost, at which the pope would be present, would initially remain as planned, it said.
It wasn’t until late March that Catholics became concerned when Pope Francis had to be hospitalized for a few days. “The pope was tired, he had a very intense day yesterday,” Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin said at an event for journalists on Friday. Francis met a lot of people on Thursday, he said. Parolin is head of the Secretariat of State and is considered number two in the Vatican behind the Pope.
Important dates are coming up
The Argentinian was present at the meeting of the Italian bishops’ conference on Thursday and gathered in the afternoon for a congress of the organization “Scholas Occurrentes” he founded. According to Parolin, Francis wanted to greet everyone there.
In the coming days there are important dates in the Holy See’s previous plans for the Pope. On Sunday he should offer the traditional Pentecost Mass. A meeting with Italian President Sergio Mattarella is also scheduled for Monday. (SDA)
