Ece S. was killed in early December after a man attacked her and her friend with a knife.

Six months after the murder of Ece S.* († 14) in Illerkirchberg, the trial against the suspect (27) must begin. The Ulm court announced on Wednesday that it will hold a hearing against the man from June 2. The prosecutor charges the suspect with murder and attempted murder with dangerous bodily harm.

On December 5, he allegedly attacked two girls with a knife on their way to school in the city of Baden-Württemberg. Ece later died in hospital from her injuries. Her 13-year-old friend was also injured, but survived.

Perpetrator spontaneously decided to kill

When the charges were filed in February, the prosecutor’s office also mentioned a possible motive. The suspect, who comes from Eritrea, wanted to force the immigration service to issue an identity document.

That’s why he took the knife. He put the net in his jacket pocket as the girls walked by and would have assumed the two had seen the knife. That’s why he spontaneously decided to kill her.

Ece’s parents are joint plaintiffs

In retrospect, he would have inflicted several stab and cut wounds on himself – possibly with suicidal intent. The man was arrested a short time later and is in custody.

As the court announced, the 13-year-old joined the proceedings as a co-plaintiff through her parents. Ece’s parents also appear as joint plaintiffs. The regional court initially scheduled five days of hearings until early July and invited a psychiatric expert. (AFP)
