The Federal Council submitted a corresponding amendment to the regulation for consultation on Wednesday. This lasts until September 1.
With few exceptions, all special characters could be included in European languages in the future, the state government announced. For example, today the letter Ć used in Croatian cannot be registered in Swiss registers.
Wait six months
According to the announcement, the amendment to the regulation is related to the introduction of the new Infostar New Generation (Infostar NG) electronic civil registry. It will not be taken into use at the beginning of 2024 as originally planned, but only a year later, the Federal Council wrote.
The innovation enables those involved to request documents from the civil registry and identity cards spelled correctly. However, this should not be possible immediately, but only six months after the new electronic register of civil status has come into effect. According to the state government, the deadline is intended to prevent civil registry offices from becoming overloaded. (SDA)
