“I’m with Tucker”: NFL star Brett Favre calls for boycott of Fox News

Brett Favre is furious with Fox News. Because they fired his friend Tucker Carlson. Now the quarterback is calling for a boycott of Fox News.

It’s no secret that former NFL superstar Brett Favre has a penchant for Republicans. He has posed with Trump on the golf course in the past and proudly announced in the 2020 presidential election that Trump had received his vote.

The former super player also repeatedly found himself in controversial situations. In recent months, he has been accused of involvement in the abuse of Social Security benefits in his home state of Mississippi’s federal program. $8 million, earmarked for people in need, has disappeared. Of that $8 million, he reportedly withdrew $5 million to build a new volleyball facility at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM). Favre’s daughter was a member of the USM volleyball team at the time. Chance? Hardly likely. However, he denies everything.

Now the quarterback is making headlines again: this time for calling for a boycott of conservative TV channel Fox News. The reason for this is the resignation of his friend Tucker Carlson, who used to be one of the most famous faces at the station.

Different theories

Carlson began hosting the popular show Tucker Carlson Tonight in 2016 until he was fired on April 24, 2023. The reasons why he had to leave the channel have not yet been disclosed. However, there are some theories about this.

Racist SMS

One reason for his dismissal may have been a racist text from 2021. He allegedly sent the message to one of his producers on the day of the storm at the US Capitol. In it, he describes a violent video of several Trump supporters attacking a person Tucker calls an “Antifa Kid.” He continues: “It was definitely three against one. Of course approaching someone like that is not honorable.” He added, “White men don’t fight like that.” Still, while watching the video, he caught himself hoping the group would kill the young man.

When the news broke, Fox News officials had to act and soon after fired Carlson. Apparently because of bad PR.

Misogynistic work environment

Other observers think Carlson’s resignation has something to do with former employee Abby Grossberg. Grossberg took over as executive director of the Tucker Carlson Tonight Show in 2022, overseeing bookings. But on March 24, 2023, she was fired. She subsequently filed two lawsuits against her former employer. First, she alleges that Fox News attorneys urged her to make false and misleading statements in Dominion Voting Systems’ defamation suit against Fox. On the other hand, the work environment at Tucker Carlson Tonight was so misogynistic that she had a nervous breakdown.

So far, the former moderator has not commented on the matters. He only shared one Videos on Twitterin which he announced his return soon.

Carlson was from Fox News. Or rather, Fox News belonged to Carlson. The broadcaster noticed that too. With Carlson’s departure, ratings have plummeted. In addition, conservative personalities have spoken out in favor of the ex-moderator. Some called for a boycott.

“I’m With Tucker”

So is the retired Hall of Famer. Favre, who was best known for his many appearances with the Green Bay Packers, took to Twitter Monday: “I’m with Tucker,” he wrote. And further:

“It’s time to boycott Fox until they come to their senses and let the man speak.”

In the tweet, the 53-year-old also posted a video clip of former Fox News host Megyn Kelly. In the video, she presents her own thoughts on Carlson’s firing, followed by a compilation of Carlson’s contributions. Metallica’s “Sad But True” plays in the background.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also spoke out for the controversial moderator in an interview with Newsmax. In the interview, he praised Tucker and suggested that unspecified behind-the-scenes events at Fox were responsible for the situation.

According to Axios magazine, Carlson wants to create his own “media empire” and compete with his former employer. But that could have a nasty aftermath: Carlson is still stuck with his contract with Fox News until January 2025. “The idea that anyone wants to silence Tucker and prevent him from speaking to his audience is beyond absurd,” Carlson’s attorney Bryan Freedman said in a statement to Axios.

Despite inquiries from various American media, Fox News does not want to comment on current events.
