Not unexpected! Volkswagen will no longer use Seat as a car brand in 2030

Seat is the only volume brand in the Volkswagen Group without electric cars. And that won’t change. EVs are reserved for Cupra, which is now the center of attention. Seat will continue to exist, but will no longer be a car brand in 2030.

At least that’s what senior executives at British Autocar said. By the end of this decade, Seat will transform from a car brand into a mobility brand for young people.

Seat will never get an electric car

“We are now analyzing what role Seat will play in the future when sales of petrol cars stop,” said a top executive. In other words, the brand will never get an electric vehicle and will be dead when the sale of gasoline cars is banned in 2035.

“We’re going to keep Seat fresh,” the person continues, whatever that means, “and will continue with hybrids and efficient internal combustion engines through the end of this decade.”

Mobility brand with scooters and small cars

With e-scooters and small cars for use in the city, Seat could become a mobility brand. In 2019, the brand already showed a Renault Twizy-like concept car, the Minimo.

“With Seat and Cupra we have the best of both worlds,” said a spokesman: “Combustion engines and electric drive.” Even if it looks suspicious, the manufacturer is simply stuck in a kind of death house.

All balls on electric brand Cupra

All balls are now aimed at Cupra, which, while not yet able to keep up with Seat’s sales figures, is showing enormous growth. The electric Cupra Born will be joined by the Tavascan next year and the Urban Rebel in 2025.
