The demonstration on February 11 in the Square of the Republic in Paris was actually against President Emmanuel Macron’s pension reform. At least three posters pursued a different concern: “EU and US stop financing the war in Ukraine”read one, held up by a man with a beard and a cap.
Strange: on March 5, on Saint-Pierre Square in Paris, the same young man took part in another operation, which now, on the contrary, seemed to take the position of Kiev. “Erdoğan, the earthquake is the prize for welcoming Russian tourists,” a banner posing as Ukrainian sneered. In addition, the man gave the Hitler salute, as was later seen on social media such as Tiktok or VKontakte – the Russian Facebook. The distorted message was: the Nazi Ukrainians are happy about the deadly earthquake in Turkey because their president is close to Russia in the war.
All this: pure fake. Created, staged and manipulated by accomplices of the Russian secret service. Their intention was, of course, to blacken Ukraine, but also to split the western front against Putin’s regime and specifically to thwart Sweden’s admission to NATO.
«Destructive Nazi nature of pro-Ukrainian activists»
This is evident from documents from the Russian secret service, which the investigation team “Dossiercentrum” led by opposition leader Mikhail Khodorkovsky leaked to European media on Monday. The Paris newspaper Le Monde reproduced a translated article by the Russian secret service, which aimed to show “Ukraine’s ungrateful and provocative response to the tragedy in Turkey (earthquake)”. In general, the Russians are trying to “emphasize the destructive Nazi nature of pro-Ukrainian activists”. In this way, tensions between Turkey and Sweden will increase so that Ankara maintains its veto against Stockholm’s NATO membership.
It is not the first time that this unscrupulous disinformation, which Russian President Vladimir Putin says serves to support his country’s “hybrid warfare” against the West, has come to light. In developing and emerging countries it is often even more open. The machinations now revealed by Khodorkovsky show how targeted the Russian opinion manipulators are. According to Le Monde, the lying Hitler salute operation, which lasted only a few minutes, reached 100,000 users.
The French newspaper states that the action in the targeted Turkish diaspora in France generated only 82 responses, probably including Russian “bots” (artificial computer programs). However, computer scientists point out that these Internet links can be multiplied at will to produce a mass effect. Productions like the one in Paris – according to the “Dossier Center” there were others in Madrid, Brussels and The Hague – are also very cheap to produce.
The two operations in Paris were set up by an Algerian named Aymen H., according to Le Monde. He has been studying in St. Petersburg since 2019 and searches for participants on the Internet, promising them a compensation of 100 euros – whether they have to compete with Western arms supplies to Ukraine or fool their views.
