At the end of April, Jeffrey R. paid his brother a nasty surprise visit.

Why did Jeffrey R. († 66) just shoot his brother? It is April 27 when the 66-year-old from Long Beach gets into his car and drives 12 hours to Ogden, Utah, US media report.

When he arrives at his brother Scott’s house, it is 7:00 PM. “Hey, what are you doing?” asks R., video recordings show, when his brother opens the door for him. He can hardly believe who is standing in front of him. “What are you doing here?”

The two brothers talk briefly. There seems to be no joy in the unexpected visitor. Suddenly R. pulls out a gun and starts shooting. His brother collapses. When the victim’s wife heard the gunshots, she fled.

Motive still unknown

Soon after, the gunman goes back to the car and pulls out a duffel bag and a shotgun. Meanwhile, the neighbors are also aware of the massacre and have alerted the police. Meanwhile, R. sets fire to the house with emergency flares.

When the police arrive a little later, R. starts shooting uncontrollably at the officers. Among other things, he had a flat tire with a police car and a neighbor’s garage door. The police shoot back. R. is hit by several bullets and dies.

About two weeks later, the motive for the bloody deed remains a mystery. American media reports only point to an estranged relationship between the brothers. It is unclear why the brother panicked so much.

Sagittarius was heavily armed

The investigation report only reveals that the shooter was heavily armed. The man had a pistol, a shotgun and 150 rounds in his car. Further findings are still pending. The Public Prosecution Service is continuing to investigate.

The victim’s daughter has now started a fundraising campaign for her mother. She wants to help her “rebuild her life”. (ceded)
