On Saturday, two people from Thurgau fought an illegal car race on the A81 in Baden-Württemberg.

Two men (29 and 44) raced down the German autobahn, sometimes at 200 km/h, fighting an illegal race on the A81 between Engen and Rottweil – a distance of 35 kilometers. As André Meyer of the police headquarters in Konstanz tells “FM1Today”, the two speedsters were two Thurgau.

In Engen, the Swiss were discovered by a civilian police video vehicle – the officers realized that the vehicles were traveling extremely fast and gave chase. According to the police in Konstanz, the two were driving in the left lane “at high speed and very little distance from each other”.

With a speed limit of 130 km/h on the highway, the two men let off the accelerator a bit – but kept changing lanes and harassing other drivers. Other road users had to change lanes.

In Rottweil the Swiss drove onto the B 27 in the direction of Balingen. The car racers overtook a cyclist in a dangerous place with oncoming traffic. Thanks to other troops, the police were able to intercept the Thurgau. The public prosecutor in Rottweil sentenced the men to a hefty four-figure fine. The matter is under further investigation – one of the cars has been illegally tuned and is banned. (jwg)
