“I don’t want to put kids in a world that isn’t worth living in, so I’ve been sterilized.” With this statement before the court in Regensburg, a climate activist (35) made headlines last week.
The supporter of the “Last Generation” had to answer to six other activists in court in June 2022 for a roadblock. But the climate-gluing process is increasingly becoming a curious mess.
Climate lectures and fiery motivational speeches
During the negotiations, the climate adhesives gave hours of presentations about the climate, reports the local portal Regensburg digital. This is how they explained their motivation and rationale for the protests.
The given procedure did not seem to interest the activists. In addition to the presentations, some of them filed numerous motions for evidence to delay the verdict – reading information about the Antarctic ice sheet and critical tipping points for two hours. All extremely time consuming.
“We want to show the urgency of climate change”
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change studies were consulted on all topics and graphs were shown. The activists wanted to draw attention to the climate crisis at all costs.
One of the keynote speakers is Wolfgang M.* According to Focus.de, the 48-year-old made headlines with a lengthy hunger strike. In court he said it was important to read all these facts. They would prove the “magnitude and urgency of climate change”.
Judgment delayed
Because the hearing had to be interrupted time and time again, the process is extended by at least one day. Originally, two days of negotiations were planned for this. The judge now had to postpone her schedule.
The media attention for the sterilized climate adhesive is enormous. In the past, climate activists have repeatedly indicated that they want to do without children because of the environmental situation. They wouldn’t be able to grow up carefree and would instead face a range of other environmental problems. (A)
