Sharp was accused of brokering an £800,000 (€900,000) concession to the former prime minister before being appointed to head the chain.

BBC chairman Richard Sharp resigned on Friday after a report found he had broken rules on public appointments, after he facilitated the granting of a loan to former Prime Minister Boris Johnsonwho proposed him for the position.

In a press release, Sharp explained today that he is making this decision in order to “interest priorities” of the channelbelieving that this matter “could distract from the good work the corporation is doing.”

Sharp was accused of brokering an £800,000 (€900,000) personal loan to Johnson. before being appointed head of the BBCalthough he always denied having a conflict of interest when he took office on February 16, 2021.
