Tragedy in Ukraine: A Ukrainian reporter who worked for the Italian daily “La Repubblica” was killed by snipers in Ukraine, according to the paper.

His Italian colleague was also injured. “Today, our correspondent Corrado Zunino and his colleague Bogdan Bitik fell victim to an ambush by Russian snipers in the outskirts of Kherson,” La Repubblica said on Wednesday.

“He Didn’t Move”

“Unfortunately, Bitik didn’t make it and passed away. He leaves behind a wife and a son. Corrado was injured in the shoulder and is in Kherson Civil Hospital.” According to the newspaper, both journalists wore body armor with the word “Presse” on it and had extensive experience reporting on the war in Ukraine.

In a telephone conversation with the injured Zunino, according to “La Repubblica”, he said: “We were hit. I saw Bogdan lying on the ground, he did not move.” He then crawled out of the line of fire himself and had a civilian take him to hospital, covered in blood. Bitik stopped responding to his calls, Zunino said. “He was a good friend of mine, the pain is unbearable.”

Russia had annexed Kherson and Luhansk and two other Ukrainian regions by September 2022. However, these regions are only partially controlled by the Russian forces. (AFP)
