Several ministers and acting head of government Najib Mikati decided this on Wednesday, according to the state news agency NNA.

Mikati asked the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to provide all available data on Syrian refugees in Lebanon within a week, it said.

In the past two weeks, the Lebanese army has arrested hundreds of Syrian nationals. Dozens of Syrians who entered Lebanon illegally or whose residence permits had expired were deported.

According to UNHCR, more than 1.5 million Syrian refugees live in Lebanon, of which only about 800,000 are officially registered with the refugee agency. In terms of population, no other country in the world has hosted as many Syrian refugees as Lebanon.

Lebanon is groaning under the worst economic crisis in its history, many Lebanese and Syrians are in existential distress. Some politicians blame the refugees for the crisis in Lebanon.

The civil war, which has claimed the lives of more than 350,000 people, has displaced or displaced 13 million people in Syria.
