This is the beginning of a new phase in communication and the “ideological and ethical revolution”, he said at the premiere of the approximately two-hour program “Con Maduro +” (more with Maduro) on Monday evening (local time) on the state broadcaster VTV.
The 60-year-old also introduced a co-moderator made with artificial intelligence named “Sira”, according to media reports, an allusion to Apple’s voice assistance software Siri. He wanted to underline that the South American country should belong to the avant-garde when it comes to technological development.
Maduro has been present for years with both radio and TV programs and in the social networks of the crisis state. The opposition accuses him of using state media for propaganda purposes.
Maduro, who has the army and police on his side, celebrates this month the anniversary of his first election victory in April 2013. He was sworn in as interim president in March 2013 after the death of his predecessor Hugo Chávez. In an early election a month later, he was elected head of state by a narrow majority.
In May 2018, he was confirmed in office in a controversial election. Numerous states, international organizations and the Venezuelan opposition described the election process as undemocratic. The next presidential election is scheduled for spring 2024. There is no date yet.
Maduro’s tenure was marked by a severe economic crisis, high inflation, mass emigration, international sanctions and fierce protests against his authoritarian style of government.
