Two Israelis injured in knife attack

A suspected Palestinian assailant stabbed two Israelis with a knife, according to paramedics. One person was seriously injured, Israeli rescue service Magen David Adon reported Tuesday.

Accordingly, the incident took place on a road near the town of Beer Yakov in central Israel. The attacker was “neutralized” on the spot. It was initially unclear whether he was killed. According to media reports, the victims are two soldiers.

On Saturday evening, a Palestinian with his car rammed three Israeli soldiers in the West Bank. A man was seriously injured. The driver was shot by another soldier.

The security situation in Israel and the Palestinian territories has long been extremely tense. Since the beginning of the year, 14 Israelis and a Ukrainian have been killed in attacks by Palestinians. During the same period, at least 91 Palestinians were killed – they were shot in clashes with the Israeli army or after their own attacks.

Israel captured the West Bank and East Jerusalem in 1967. Today, more than 600,000 Israeli settlers live there. The Palestinians claim the territories for an independent state of Palestine with the Arab-influenced eastern part of Jerusalem as its capital. (aeg/sda/dpa)
