Before the arrest of Donald Trump, the entire New York police force must prepare for an exceptional historic situation. The threat situation is difficult to assess.

A total of 36,000 police officers work in New York. And the New York police apparently want to be extra alert to the arrest of Donald Trump in Manhattan. According to US media reports, a contingent of 35,000 police officers should be ready for an emergency like never before in the history of this city and country.

Trump, a former president of the United States, has been charged and is due to appear in court in South Manhattan. The reason is possible violations of the election campaign law related to hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels.

Security measures need to be taken now, of which there is no example so far. What is clear is that the Secret Service, which is still responsible for Trump as an ex-president, will escort him to Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office on Tuesday morning and then to the magistrate.

Meanwhile, the New York police must protect the narrow and busy streets of Manhattan. “Officials are on alert and the department stands ready to respond if necessary and will ensure that everyone can peacefully exercise their rights,” the New York Police Department said of the expected protests. “Violence and destruction are never part of free speech,” warned New York Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell.

“Should there be violence, it would be another victory for the Democrats.”

The already historic exceptional situation is made even more difficult: reporters from all over America and from around the world have been besieging the courthouse at 100 Center Street for days, they have set up a tent city.

Opposite the main entrance is a small park. Right-wing MP Marjorie Taylor Greene wants to hold a protest rally for Donald Trump there on Tuesday together with the right-wing conservative local group Young Republicans. She speaks of an “unconstitutional witch hunt” against Trump. The police expect counter-demonstrations and have already erected steel barricades.

The situation for the police is confusing, also because Trump supporters doubt whether they should come. Although the accused ex-president called for protests days ago, some fear being trapped. Rumors are circulating on social networks that the FBI or a radical left-wing Antifa would like to incite violence disguised as Trumpists.

These types of posts can often be found in relevant groups of followers:

“There will be FBI and Antifa agitators at the New York City protest.”

Or:

They will pose as ‘Make America Great Again’ supporters.

And further: “They will falsely arrest people and put them in federal prisons where they will wait years to be charged and tried.”

In an interview with t-online, Republican circles in Washington said they hoped to “learn from the events of January 6” and not fall for it again. “Should there be violence, it would be another victory for the Democrats.”

Trump, on the other hand, has been heating up the situation for days. “Human scum” are the Democrats, New York prosecutor Alvin Bragg a “degenerate psychopath”. He even accused the judge responsible for him, Juan Manuel Marchán, of hating him anyway.

Former New York mayor and now former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani is also trying to stir up the mood. “We are no longer a country that can be called the rule of law,” he said during an hour-long broadcast on his YouTube channel. “We have become a country of dictators, democratic dictators who decide who gets charged,” Giuliani said.

They are statements intended to justify a possible uprising, much like on January 6, 2021, when Giuliani, Trump and their allies incited the masses with the lie of a supposedly stolen election.

New York’s upcoming exceptional situation begins Monday and extends across southern Manhattan. Because Trump announced on his social network Truth Social that he would leave his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida around noon and travel directly to his Trump Tower near Central Park.

Supporters at Trump Tower have already called for a demonstration on Monday.

As of Tuesday, the area around the courthouse is expected to be largely cordoned off to allow Trump to enter and exit the Center Street building without incident. All other pending processes in the publicly accessible courthouse would be suspended to avoid as much pedestrian traffic as possible.

“Behave yourself!”

New York City Mayor Eric Adams said in a news conference Monday that there is currently no imminent threat. For would-be rioters who might come to town, he has a message: “Control yourself! New York City is our home, not a playground for your misplaced anger.”

He even addressed Marjorie Taylor Greene directly: as a person who spreads “misinformation and hate speech”. “Behave yourself,” Adams said in reference to Taylor Greene’s planned protest. Those who commit violence are mercilessly prosecuted and arrested. “It does not matter who you are.”

As New York City and the police arm themselves for this presidential process, Donald Trump prepares fearlessly for his upcoming election campaign. In an email to his followers on Monday, he wrote: “It is hard to believe that tomorrow I will be arrested as a result of the most nefarious witch hunt in our country’s history.” But because he will continue to fight for America, “the fallen nation,” he is asking for donations.

Trump hopes for amounts between $24 and $250. In case of doubt, what happens to such donations could very well be the subject of the indictment against Donald Trump. During his first campaign in 2016, Trump’s team allegedly paid former porn star Stormy Daniels $130,000 in hush money to prevent her from revealing to the media about an affair with him.

Trump says no such relationship existed. However, since this amount was not reported under his campaign expenses, he may have broken the law.

Just before Donald Trump boarded his plane, Trump Force One, on Monday, he posted a message to Truth Social ranting, “WITCH HUNT as our once great country goes to HELL.”
