As a child, she probably never dreamed that Mira Murati would one day be responsible for a hype in the field of artificial intelligence. Born in Albania in 1988, the brain behind the popular chatbot ChatGPT, which can simulate conversations and write texts in a short time.

Murati was interested in math, video games and therefore artificial intelligence from an early age, she explains in a video presentation for the “Goldlab Symposium”, in which she presents the developments behind ChatGPT. However, in Albania at the time there were few opportunities to put their ideas into practice.

From Albania to Silicon Valley

So she moved to the US, where she studied engineering at Dartmouth College (New Hampshire) and then worked in the tech industry for a few years. This included a stint at Tesla where she delved deeper into artificial intelligence applications, particularly through self-driving car technologies.

In 2018, she joined the American tech company OpenAI, of which Elon Musk (51) was one of the founders.

She is behind ChatGPT and Dall-E

As Chief Technology Officer (CTO), under her leadership at OpenAI, two software developments have recently created a real hype: ChatGPT and Dall-E. The latter works like ChatGPT with artificial intelligence: if you give the Dall-E software an image description, it generates made-up images of it in just a few seconds.

Murati told Time magazine that one of ChatGPT’s biggest challenges is getting the conversation model to invent things in such a way that the software can then confidently pretend what has been invented is fact.

Murati has made an important contribution to the development of the chatbot and is optimistic about this development. Despite this – or perhaps precisely because of this – it regularly campaigns for regulation of AI.
