US President Joe Biden has chosen new colors for Air Force One presidential planes, ditching the livery desired by his predecessor Donald Trump. As the U.S. Air Force announced Friday, the sitting president has opted for a classic blue-and-white color scheme that former U.S. President John F. Kennedy flew 60 years ago.
Trump, who was in office until January 2021, would have wanted a more eye-catching design in the national colors of red, white, and blue — with a deep red stripe down the center and an aircraft belly painted dark blue. However, the dark blue color caused problems due to “greater heat development”, the Air Force explains.
The new Air Force One aircraft must be delivered by manufacturer Boeing in 2027 and 2028, so that the winner of the 2024 presidential election will be the first to take off on the new aircraft. According to the Air Force, the new paintwork should come on: light blue in a “more modern tone” and no more polished metal on the aircraft fuselage. (AFP)
